Magician
By Raymond E. Feist

I rate this book 4 stars

This is actually the first two of four books of the Riftwar Saga written by Raymond E. Reist. Magician
Apprentice and Magician Master.

This book is about an orphan named Pug. Pug is adopted by the parents of his best friend Tomas. During
an apprenticeship choosing, which happens midsummer after a boy's 13 birthday, Tomas is chosen to
become a knight while Pug is left without a master to take him as an apprentice in their trade. Master
Kulgan (the kingdoms master magician) feels pity for Pug and takes him as his apprentice even though the
concept of training new magicians is controversial.

Pug has trouble with learning the skills needed for magic until he discovers a new form of magic that
decides the fate of two realms. Pug overcomes adversities from being an orphan, to a failed apprenticeship,
to becoming a slave, to become the greatest magician ever to live.
